The rod and reel combo used for

Teramar rod rated for 10-20lb (model TMS70MH). This is a
very versatile spinning outfit and is incredibly entertaining when
fighting these tough fish.The spinning reel
was loaded with
14lb Berkley Fireline Crystal which is attached to a 3ft length of
30lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a
#10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The small profile of the swivel
virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris.
The rig was a simple hi-lo rig that with a standoff
drop loops at one foot above the sinker and again at three feet above
the sinker. A standard 2-4oz bank sinker was used to ensure
the rig was on the bottom. The dropper loops were threaded
through 3/0
Mustad Beak Baitholder hooks and clam baits soaked in
Mustad
Activate Bait Enhancer were used. The bait enhancer
was particularly effective when the tide slowed and the fish became
very finicky.
