| Captains Andy and Rich
join Capt Mitch Mills of the
Helen H Fleet
(508-790-0660) to hook up with striped bass in
the famous Monomoy Rips. They use an innovative technique of
drifting that involves drifting plastic squids back into the rips using
light tackle while stemming the tide. The rips are fearsome and the
fish fight like mad in the raging current. The
techniques in this show can be used by anyone who wants to target big fish
on artificials in rips anywhere throughout the region. If you have questions about any of the
equipment used during the show, please contact us
or send us a message.

The rod and reel combo used for
fluke fishing features a
Shimano
Stradic
4000FI reel on a
7'
Teramar rod rated for 10-20lb (model TMS70MH).
This is a very versatile spinning outfit and was perfect for dropping
the artifical squids back into the rips. The spinning reel is loaded with
20lb
Berkley Fireline Crystal which is attached to a 3ft length of
30lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a
#10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The small profile of the swivel virtually
eliminates any chance of picking up debris.
The rig consisted of either a hollow shell squid
with a small egg sinker inserted inside and a 3/0 treble trailer hook
or a Berkley Gulp
Squid which is available in many colors, has excellent scent and
is very tough to pull of the hook. The Gulp squid also
requires no refrigeration to stay fresh. It was rigged 4ft
behind an egg sinker that was placed above the swivel. The Gulp
squid was rigged with a single
7/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Baitholder hook in the mantle.

The
Frabill net seen on this show
was model 8410 - 26"x30" PowerCatch Landing Net (Tangle-free knotless –
36” deep)
The large heavy mesh size (1 3/4”) makes this a good net for striped
bass, cod, bluefish, etc. This net can handle bunker spoons (which will
destroy lighter mesh) and resists bluefish teeth.
Another choice would be model 8415 26"x30" PowerCatch
Landing Net (tangle-free weighted – 38” deep). The mesh size (1
1/2”) makes this a good net for striped bass, cod, etc. The mesh has
less water resistance than the tangle-free knotless, but can be damaged
by bunker spoons and bluefish teeth.

| The boat used was a 28ft Triton
powered by twin 300hp Mercury Verados. This boat is the real deal.
With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, this boat will knife through big seas
that would leave most boats back at the dock. The deck layout
makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore,
plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.
