Captains Andy LoCascio, Rich Tenreiro, and John Marino of American Sportfishing Charters (516 457-8715) join forces to get in on the fluke bite on the south shore of Long Island.  They use 4oz and 6oz bucktails and land some very impressive fish.  They use a teaser rig designed for whole squid baits and also demonstrate stemming techniques.    If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Calcutta 400S reel on a Shimano 7' Teramar conventional (casting) rod rated for 15-30lb (model TMC-X70MH).  This is a very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for working heavier bucktails on the bottom.

We recommend a reel loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game Braid which is attached to a 4ft length of 80lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 130lb Mustad Rolling Swivel.  The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris.  A 3in dropper loop is added to the leader 12in above the bucktail. The dropper loop is attached to a 4ft leader of  80lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon that had two 4/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Baitholder hooks (4 inches apart) attached to it.  The two hooks are used to hold the whole squid in place.

Located 12 inches below the dropper loop on the main leader is a 1 1/2oz HookUp ST Series Bucktail in either pink, chartreuse or white tipped with a white or pink Berkley Gulp Alive Swimming Mullet.  The bucktail is also tipped with a spearing hooked through the eyes.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

The raging current made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 225CC Triton powered by a 250hp Mercury Verado.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2255 will knife through a chop that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
