Captain Henry Feeney joins Andy and Rich for a trip down to NJ to find a big body of striped bass that has been chasing herring off of Sandy Hook.  They vow to leave the bait at home and go only equipped with light spinning tackle.  They use only swimming plugs and a couple of poppers to score dozens of fish including several keepers to prove that these fish can be effectively targeted with artificials.  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Stradic 4000FH reel on a Shimano 7' Teramar rod rated for 15-30lb (model TMSF70H).  This is a very versatile spinning outfit and is perfect for working plugging trophy stripers and big bluefish.

We recommend a reel loaded with 20lb Berkley Fireline Crystal which is attached to a 4ft length of 30lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 80lb SPRO Power Swivel.  The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris.

The only lure used was the new 6 1/2" (1 3/8oz) Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow Magnum.  This lure is a prefect imitation of the large baitfish found in the Northeast.  Several of the patterns exactly mimic a herring in action, size, and color.  The weight and shape of the lure make it perfect for both boat and surf applications.  The lure can handle any size fish from schoolies to trophies.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

The raging current made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2895CC Triton powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verados.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2895 will knife through big seas that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
