Captains Andy LoCascio, Rich Tenreiro, and John Luchka team up to fish the prestigious Manhattan Cup Tournament sponsored by the Fishermen's Conservation Association.  Along with one of the most impressive fields ever assembled, they brave high winds and thunderstorms in search of big blues and stripers.  On their way back they run into an incredible striper blitz beneath the Verrazano bridge and score some monster fish on topwater plugs.   Special thanks go out to Frank Crescitelli, Dave Fallon, and the rest of the crew from the FCA for an amazing tournament!  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The spinning rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Spheros 5000 reel on a 7' Teramar rod rated for 15-30lb (model TMSF70H).  This is a very versatile spinning outfit and is perfect for working plugging trophy stripers and big bluefish.

The conventional rod and reel combo we recommend features a Shimano Torium 20 reel on a Tallus conventional rod  (model TLC-70MHA).  This is a very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for nearly all northeast live lining and chunking applications.

The spinning reel is loaded with 30lb Berkley Fireline Crystal which is attached to a 3ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a Mustad Rolling Swivel  The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris.

The conventional reel is loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to a 3ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 130lb SPRO Power Swivel.  The rig is completed with a 9/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook.  This is an incredibly sharp hook and is the most effective hook when using large live baits, whole dead baits, or chunk baits

The surface plugs used underneath the bridge were 6" (1 3/8oz) Yo-Zuri Surface Cruiser plugs.  They are easy to work, have tremendous casting distance, and draw dramatic strikes from the fish.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

The raging current made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2895CC Triton powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verados.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2895 will knife through big seas that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
