Captains Andy LoCascio, Rich Tenreiro, and John Marino of American Sportfishing Charters (516 457-8715) join forces and head to Greenwich, CT to fish some of the deep water wrecks in the Long Island Sound.  They demonstrate how to properly anchor on the wrecks as well as what it it takes to pull big blackfish off the wrecks.  They catch dozens of fish, many over 5lbs and several over 9lbs.  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Tekota 500 reel on a Shimano  6'6"Compre conventional (casting) rod rated for 15-30lb (model CPC66MHB).  This is a very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for choice for blackfish when using sinker weights up to 12 ounces.

We recommend a reel loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game Braid which is attached to a 4ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 130lb Mustad Rolling Swivel.  The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris or snagging on any wreckage..

The rig we recommend consists of a dropper loop 6" above a loop that is passed through the eye of a 4-8oz bank sinker.  A 9" length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader tipped with a  4/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook.  This is an incredibly sharp hook and is very effective at penetrating the tough mouths of blackfish.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

The raging current made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2895CC Triton powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verados.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2895 will knife through big seas that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
The Automatic Adjusting Marker Buoy used during the show was provided by Skimmer Outdoors.  This is a reliable, easy to use marker that remains in place after setting. Traditional markers used a fixed sinker line which might either be too short to reach the bottom or might become entangled in the propeller. The Automatic Adjusting Marker Buoy automatically releases the necessary line for the depth and also avoids line entanglement. The buoy is made of durable nylon, Styrofoam and stainless steel for long life.  (Click on the buoy to enlarge)  Available now at Skimmer Outdoors!
All the clothes worn by Capt Andy and Rich were embroidered by Darla Hall at Stitches by SWYCE.  This is an embroiderer that caters exclusively to peoples passions!  Be it a fishing vessel, club, event or favorite activity, Stitches by SWYCE can create the perfect image for shirts, caps, jackets and more.
