Capt Andy and Capt Rich join up with fellow local Capt John Marino of American Sportfishing Charters (516-457-8715) in pursuit of monster stripers.  Fishing in the western Long Island Sound Waters, the guys use a combination of live and whole dead bunker to score some very respectable fish up to 40lbs.  All three of the captains share some a their most effective techniques and give plenty of tips for targeting these fish.   If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Torium 20 reel on a Tallus conventional rod  (model TLC-70MHA).  This is a very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for nearly all northeast live lining and chunking applications.

We recommend a reel loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to a 3ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorcarbon leader using a 130lb Mustad Rolling Swivel.  The rig is completed with a 9/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook.  This is an incredibly sharp hook and is the most effective hook when using large live baits, whole dead baits, or chunk baits

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

The raging current made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2486CC Triton powered by twin 150hp Mercury Optimax engines.  This boat is one tough customer. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry the 2486 can handle almost anything the northeast can dish out.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
Capt Andy and Rich wear polarized sunglasses supplied by Azores Eyewear.  Finally someone has come out with a premium sunglass line at a reasonable price (less than $80).  The polarized lenses eliminate glare and allows anglers to spend long hours on the water without having to worry about headaches and eyestrain.  All models have 100% UVA and UVB protection.  Never settle for anything else.  No angler should be without these  glasses.
