Tim Norman, National Sales Manager for SPRO and Mustad joins Andy and Rich for an amazing day of light tackle fluke fishing. The guys score dozens of big fluke in depths ranging from 35-50ft of water. They also illustrate the stemming technique needed to ensure a perfect presentation with such light tackle. The rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Stradic 2500FH reel on a 7' Clarus rod rated for 10-20lb (model CSS-FL70M). This is a very versatile spinning outfit and is perfect for working light bucktails on the bottom.

We recommend a reel loaded with 14lb Berkley Fireline which is attached to a 2ft length of 30lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 5 0lb SPRO Power Swivel. The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris.

The rig is topped off with either a 3/4 - 1oz SPRO Bucktail Jig in either white or chartreuse tipped with a white or green Exude Saltwater Curly Tail Grub. White 3/4oz SPRO Mudkicker jigs can also used. These are perfect for "sticky" bottoms and fast currents where a traditional jig shape may hang up. Both these bucktail jigs styles are extremely effective when fishing in any depth.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems. The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish! All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker. They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition. The raging current made the net choice especially critical. A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side. This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!

The boat used was a 2486CC Triton powered by twin 150hp Mercury Optimax engines. This boat is one tough customer. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry the 2486 can handle almost anything the northeast can dish out. The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.
