Captains Andy and Rich head up to Point Judith to get in on a red hot school tuna bite with Captain Mike Neto of the Adrianna Charters (401-573-3474).  Bluefin Tuna fishing just keeps getting better every year.  The bite was non-stop and they caught way too many bluefin tuna to count.  Some of the fish were nearly 35lbs!  They put the trolling gear away and had all the fish on the new Shimano butterfly jig system and Yo-Zuri topwater plugs on very light spinning tackle.  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The new butterfly jig system seen on the show featured a Shimano 16N Torsa reel on a 6'6" Trevala rod rated for 50-100lb (model TVC66-MH).

This is an incredible combo and is capable of handling Tuna of 70lbs or greater.  The rod is specifically designed for butterfly jigs.  The reel has enormous torque and the angler can exert incredible pressure on the fish.  Click here to learn more about butterfly jigging!

We recommend a reel loaded with 50lb Berkley Big Game Braid which is attached to a 3ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 130lb SPRO Power Swivel.

The rig is completed with a Shimano 4 3/4" 135g Butterfly Jig (regular size) and two 4/0 Mustad Assist hooks.

A medium weight spinning combo was also used that featured a 7' medium/heavy fast action Shimano Teramar rod (model TMS-70MH) and a 6000 Sedona reel.

We recommend a reel loaded with 20lb Berkley Big Game monofilament line attached to a 2ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 130lb SPRO Power Swivel.

The rig is completed with a 6" Yo-Zuri Surface Cruiser or a Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil.  Both these lures were effective in all colors.  The Surface Cruiser added some additional casting distance, but the gently landing and action of the Hydro Pencil was sometimes more effective.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

The raging current made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2286CC Triton powered by a 250hp Mercury Verado.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2286 will knife through a chop that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
Accommodations were provided by the Lighthouse Inn in Point Judith, RI (401-789-9341).  This hotel was located right in the heart of the town.  It featured a spectacular pool, complete with sauna, game room, and a top rate restaurant and bar.  It is walking distance from all the party and charter boats and directly across from the ferry.
Capt Andy and Rich wear polarized sunglasses supplied by Azores Eyewear.  Finally someone has come out with a premium sunglass line at a reasonable price (less than $80).  The polarized lenses eliminate glare and allows anglers to spend long hours on the water without having to worry about headaches and eyestrain.  All models have 100% UVA and UVB protection.  Never settle for anything else.  No angler should be without these  glasses.
