Andy and Rich are joined by Triton pro-staffer Captain Tom Pitasi of Coastal Fishing Charters to compete in the prestigious 2-day Montauk Redbone tournament against some of the finest guides in the region. The guys battle brutal conditions in pursuit of stripers, blues, and false albacore. They use a variety of techniques in their attempt to come out on top. The rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Stradic 4000FH reel on a 7' Teramar rod rated for 10-20lb (model TMS70-MH). This is a very versatile spinning outfit and is perfect for northeast plugging.

We recommend a reel loaded with 20lb Berkley Fireline which is attached to a 3ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a 130lb SPRO Power Swivel.

The Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil was very effective when targeting false albacore. This lure was effective in all colors and the action drew some very dramatic strikes. The Yo-Zuri Surface Cruiser was used when the bluefish popped up. It provided some additional casting distance and much more surface commotion. When targeting striped bass a 1ounce SPRO Bucktail Jig tipped with a white Exude Saltwater Curly Tail Grub in either white or pink.

The fly fishing outfit used by Rich consisted of a G-Loomis Syncrotech GL8-9-10 reel on an incredible 9' - 9wt four piece Mancini Signature Fly Rod from East Coast Fisherman. This is the prefect rod for striped bass, bonito and false albacore and is an all-purpose "work horse" fish fighting machine.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems. The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish! All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker. They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition. The raging current made the net choice especially critical. A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side. This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!

The boat used was a 2486CC Triton powered by twin 150hp Mercury Optimax engines. This boat is one tough customer. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry the 2486 can handle almost anything the northeast can dish out. The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.
