| Captains Andy and Rich made their final
trip of the season to historic Montauk, NY to hook up with Captain Joel
Lizza of the Sea Otter
Fleet (631- 668-2669). It was the last week of November and the
Blackfish bite was red hot. They took advantage of the great
conditions and made the 15mile run to the south side of Block Island.
The bite was fantastic and included plenty of 5-8lb fish and even a
couple of 10lb fish in depths of 50-60ft. If you have questions about any of the
equipment used during the show, please contact us
or send us a message. |

    |
| The outfit used consisted of a
Shimano TLD 15/30 reel on a 7'
XH (extra heavy) Compre rod rated for 15-30lb test line.
This combination is capable of handling sinkers up to 8oz and had more
than enough muscle to pull the Blackfish off the bottom before they
could wedge themselves in the rocks. |
 |
|
|
| The reels were loaded with
80lb
Spiderwire Stealth.
The thin diameter and lack of stretch were perfect for the strong
current and significant depths. The terminal tackle consisted of a
A 5-6ft leader of 40-60lb
Berkley Vanish attached to the main line using an 130lb
SPRO Power
Swivel. A six inch standoff or dropper loop six inches above
the sinker was threaded through a
single 2/0-3/0
Mustad
Ultrapoint Beak Bait hook. |
|
|
| All the tackle used on
Northeast Angling is stored in
Ameripack tackle
systems. The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to
the fish! All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod
Pods and the Reel Locker. They insure that everything makes it to
the shoot in perfect condition. Their versatile Fly Boxes are also
used for bucktails and rigs. |

|
| The size of these fish made the net choice especially
critical. A
Frabill
Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that
none of the fish were lost at boat-side. This is a a great net that stores easily and all
you have to do is slide, lock and
load and it is ready to go! |

| Accommodations were provided by
our good friend Jimmy at
Daunt's
Albatross Motel (631) 668-2867. A beautiful white sand
beach is just a few steps from the door. The ride to either the
east or west side of Lake Montauk and the marinas is only a few minutes.
It is just a very brief walk from the heart of the town. For the
non-fishermen in your party it is close by are the many other
attractions Montauk is famous for. Including fabulous restaurants,
stores, horseback riding, and golf. They have two pools, tennis courts,
an aerobic studio and a garden area that is perfect for a cookout. |

The Automatic Adjusting Marker Buoy used during the show was provided by
Skimmer Outdoors. This is a reliable, easy to use marker that
remains in place after setting. Traditional markers used a fixed sinker
line which might either be too short to reach the bottom or might become
entangled in the propeller. The Automatic Adjusting Marker Buoy
automatically releases the necessary line for the depth and also avoids
line entanglement. The buoy is made of durable nylon, Styrofoam and
stainless steel for long life. (Click on the buoy to enlarge)
