Captains Andy and Rich spend a day in early October
visiting several shoreline locations on Ling Island with some very
special guests. Rich and Andy leave their boats behind and split
up in the morning in search of bass and blues. Rich heads off with
"Crazy" Alberto Knie from
Aquaskinz to
enjoy some great fly fishing, while Andy teams up with Paul Michele from
Yo-Zuri to test out some new swimming lures and Fluorocarbon leaders.
After lunch Rich meets up with Bill "Doc" Muller from Uncle Josh for
some red bucktail/pork rind action. In addition
to hosting the show, Captain Andy runs
Long Island
Fishing Charters and Captain Rich runs
R&G Charters.
Both boats leave port only minutes from these very same waters. The techniques and tackle in this show
can be used by anyone who wants to get in on the fall diamond jigging bite.
If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show,
please contact us
or send us a message. |

| The spinning outfits used by Andy and Paul, and later
by Rich and Doc, consisted of a
Shimano
Stradic 4000 spinning reels on the new
Teramar rods. These 7' medium heavy, fast action rods were a
perfect for the reels and lures used in this show. The
casting distance and hook setting power are exactly what is needed. |
 |
|
|
| The spinning reels were loaded with
20lb
Berkley Fireline. A 24" 40lb leader of the new Yo-Zuri
Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon (available January 2005) leader was
attached to the main line using an 80lb
SPRO Power
Swivel. The new
Yo-Zuri Live Bait Minnow (available January 2005) plugs in 5" 1/8"
(1oz) in a variety of colors (they all worked) proved to be
irresistible. Rich and Doc were throwing 1-1 1/2oz
SPRO
bucktails tipped with red o
Uncle Josh 240 Pork Strips. |
|
|
| The fly fishing outfits used
by Rich and Alberto consisted of a
G-Loomis
Syncrotech GL8-9-10 reel on a 9wt three piece
Cross Current fly rod. The reel features a cork disk drag, a
quick release machined spool, and a large arbor for fast retrieves.
This combo is the perfect outfit for stripers and blues. |
 |
 |
| The fly reels were loaded with 9wt
Orvis
Striper Wonderline Advantage and knotless
Mirage 9ft/12lb knotless tapered leaders. A variety of
Orvis saltwater flies were used including Clousers, Peanut Butter,
Cowen's Baitfish, and Lefty's Deceiver, Skipping Bugs, and Gummy
Minnows. |
 |
 |
| Rich was wearing an amazing pair of
Tailwaters XT waders from
Orvis. These
waders are attached directly to the wading shoe with a built-in stocking
foot support. The boots lace up quickly and easily and fit
perfectly. They are incredibly comfortable and completely dry. They also
fold up into a very small and lightweight carry bag. |
