| In late August Capt Andy and Rich hooked up with one of
the sharpest cod fisherman in the Northeast, Capt Joe Huckemeyer of the
famous Helen H
(508-790-0660) out of Hyannis, MA. If you want to catch cod year
round, Joe and the folks from the Helen H are the best choice. He
and his partner Joe Wienberg, captain of the charter boat
Fish Hawk
(508-790-9777), took us out into 200ft of water and we positively bailed
the big fish. We had too many 20-30lb fish to count during one of
the best cod bites we have ever seen. The techniques and tackle in this show
can be used by anyone who target big deepwater cod whether on their own
boat, a charter, or an open boat.
If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show,
please contact us or send us a message. |

| The outfits used consisted of a
Shimano
Torium 30 conventional reels on matching 7'0 heavy
Tallus rods.
This combination is perfect for this type of fishing. The Torium reel
has a 6.2-1 retrieve and is quick enough to get your rig up from the
depths in a reasonable amount of time. The heavy Tallus rods had
enough beef to easily handle the biggest diamond jigs. |

|
|
| The reels were loaded with
80lb
Spiderwire Stealth. The thin diameter and lack of stretch were
perfect for the strong current and significant depths. The bait
rig consisted of two dropper loops tied into a 4ft length of 80lb
Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon approximately 24" apart tipped with 5/0
black
Mustad
Ultrapoint Beak Bait hooks. The rig was attached to the main line with a 230lb
SPRO Power
Swivel and completed with a sinker ranging from 6-16oz depending on
the speed of the drift. The diamond jig rig consisted of a 3ft
length of the same leader material attached to either a smooth or
hammered diamond jig from
West End Fishing Tackle. The shape of these jigs is by far the
best and most effective we have ever used for cod fishing. We also
added a teaser on a 5/0 Ultrapoint Beak Bait hook that consisted of a
Mister
Twister Exude scented
Crystal Slug in variety of colors, all of which were very effective. |

| All the tackle used on
Northeast Angling is stored in
Ameripack tackle
systems. The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to
the fish! All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod
Pods and the Reel Locker. They insure that everything makes it to
the shoot in perfect condition. Their versatile Fly Boxes are also
used for bucktails and rigs. |

| Big cod, require a bit net. A
Frabill
Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that
none of the fish were lost at boat-side. This net was even big
enough to handle double headers and 20lb+ fish. This is a a great net that stores easily and all
you have to do is slide, lock and
load and it is ready to go! |

| Special thanks go out to the
great staff at Hyannis Marina (508-790-4000) for hauling the boat in and out of the
water and for supplying slip space for the shoot. The marina is
located on the cape at the entrance to the Nantucket Sound. It is
a full service marina (fuel, pump out, hauling, etc.) that can handle
boats of any size. It is perfectly located right in the heart of
Hyannis and there are even two very nice watering holes located only
footsteps away. This is the first and only choice for transient
boaters staying in Hyannis |

| Accommodations were provided by the
Four Points by Sheraton Hyannis Resort on Cape Cod (508-775-7775).
It is only minutes away from the fishing and is also perfect for any
non-fishermen in you group. Surrounded by 52 totally private acres
of beautifully landscaped grounds, the hotel offers a one-of-a-kind
vacation experience. They have a stunning 18-hole par 54 golf course and
the view from the rooms is spectacular. They also have one of Cape Cod's
