Captains Andy and Rich spend mid-November morning off the Connecticut shoreline experiencing incredible non-stop blitzes.  Hundreds of screaming birds, and dozens and school bass and big blues, all on diamond jigs and teasers.  In addition to hosting the show, Captain Andy runs Long Island Fishing Charters and Captain Rich runs R&G Charters.  Both boats leave port only minutes from these very same waters.  The techniques and tackle in this show can be used by anyone who wants to get in on the fall diamond jigging bite.  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The outfit used consisted of a Shimano TLD 15/30 reel on a 7' XH (extra heavy) Compre rod rated for 15-39lb test line.  This combination is capable of handling diamond jigs up to 8oz and had more than enough muscle to handle the biggest bass and blues.

The reels were loaded with 50lb Spiderwire Stealth.  The thin diameter and lack of stretch were perfect for this type of fishing.  The rig we recommend consists of a dropper loop tied into a 3ft length of 40lb Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon approximately 24" from the a 4oz hammered diamond jig from West End Fishing Tackle.  The flat shape of these jigs is by far the best and most effective we have ever used for bass and blues.  A teaser was added to the dropper loop consisting of a 5/0 black Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait hook and a  Mister Twister Exude scented Crystal Slug in variety of colors, all of which were very effective.  The rig was attached to the main line with a 230lb SPRO Power Swivel.

All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

Even though most of the fish were school size, every now and then the right fish came along and a Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
Capt Andy and Rich wear polarized sunglasses supplied by Azores Eyewear.  Finally someone has come out with a premium sunglass line at a reasonable price (less than $80).  The polarized lenses eliminate glare and allows anglers to spend long hours on the water without having to worry about headaches and eyestrain.  All models have 100% UVA and UVB protection.  Never settle for anything else.  No angler should be without these  glasses.
