The Northeast Angling season opened with a May 17 visit to Barnegat Bay, NJ with Captain Terry Sullivan.  Terry has extensive knowledge of New Jersey waters from Barnegat Inlet to Sandy Hook.  Terry proved how sharp he really is when he put Capt Andy and Rich on weakfish to over 10lbs.  The evening bite was amazing as weakfish, striped bass, and bluefish crashed bait all around the boat.   If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The outfit used consisted of a Shimano Sahara 2500FB reel on a 6'6"' MH fast action Compre spinning rod rated for 8-17lb test line.  This combination is perfect for this type of fishing. It was sensitive to feel even the lightest of pickups, yet had enough beef to handle the current and the big fish.

The reels were loaded with 10lb Berkley Fireline.  The thin diameter and lack of stretch were perfect for the raging current and soft weakfish bites.  A 2-3ft leader of 20lb Berkley Vanish was attached to the main line using an 80lb Mustad Rolling Swivel.  The rig is completed by 3/8-1/2oz Hookup Bucktails in either pink shad or white tipped with a strip of red or yellow Uncle Josh 240 Pork Strip.  A second rig was also used that consisted of a 1/4oz ball jig head tipped with a Mister Twister Exude Crystal Slug (90H Emperor Red) scented soft plastic bait.
All the tackle used on Northeast Angling is stored in Ameripack tackle systems.  The Backpack Tackle system is used to get the tackle to the fish!  All the rods and reels are transported using the Rod Pods and the Reel Locker.  They insure that everything makes it to the shoot in perfect condition.  Their versatile Fly Boxes are also used for bucktails and rigs.

The raging current made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
The boat was launched at the scenic Southwinds Harbor Marina in Forked River, NJ.  This facility has a full service marina with 160 slips that can accommodate boats up to 55ft.  It has a pool, ramp, fuel (gas/diesel), pump out, ship store, laundry and many other amenities.  The marina is only footsteps away from the Southwinds Grille where the Captains and crew had a great dinner.
Accommodations were provided by the Holiday Inn Toms River (732-244-4000 ).  This hotel was only minutes away from the fishing and had all the amenities that one would expect of a Holiday Inn including conference facilities, pool, restaurant and lounge
Capt Andy and Rich wear polarized sunglasses supplied by Azores Eyewear.  Finally someone has come out with a premium sunglass line at a reasonable price (less than $80).  The polarized lenses eliminate glare and allows anglers to spend long hours on the water without having to worry about headaches and eyestrain.  All models have 100% UVA and UVB protection.  Never settle for anything else.  No angler should be without these  glasses.
