| The May 19 visit to Orient
Point, Long Island was quite successful. Andy and Rich's guest,
Capt. Bob Rochetta,
was right on the money when he described the action. The conditions were perfect, the
bite was on, the action rarely stopped and there were numerous double
and triple headers. Rich, Andy and Bob really put their tackle to the test battling more fish
than they could count. Nearly all of the fish were of legal size and many were
in the 4-5lb range, with the largest at around 8 lbs. All of the fish were
caught either drifting or stemming the tide at depths ranging from 30-50 feet. If
you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please
contact us or send us a message.

The terminal tackle consisted of either a
SPRO bucktail (chartreuse, pink or white) or a
West End Tackle fluke bullet
on a 3ft long 50lb test Fluorocarbon
leader. The leader is attached to a main line of braid using a 130lb test SPRO swivel. The Fluorocarbon leader provided
adequate protection against
the sharp teeth of the fluke. It was also tough enough to handle many of
the 5-7lb bluefish that were quite a nuisance. An additional 3-4ft
section of Fluorocarbon leader teaser was tied 6-8inches above the
bucktail/fluke bullet and tipped with a 5/0
Mustad
beak baitholder
hook. If you would like to buy any of the tackle displayed on this

| Accommodations were provided by
the Silver Sands
Motel located in Greenport. Their 36 acres make them the largest
bay beach resort on the North Fork of Long Island. This is a private
and secluded year round resort with a stunning 1/4 mile beach and great
views of Shelter Island. The resort was less than a 10 minute drive
from the Orient by
The Sea marina and restaurant. Orient by the Sea is full service
marina with slip availability, launching ramp, fuel, water and everything
else a boater could need. It is also the home of the North Forks
largest fishing fleet with both open and charter boats. Visit the
North Fork
Captains Association web site to learn more about the many fishing
opportunities available. Our bait consisted of spearing and squid that
was supplied by Anthony at Wego Fishing Bait and Tackle in Southold
(631-765-3918). This is the place to go for bait and tackle on the
North Fork. Special thanks go out to the folks at
Manhasset
Bay Marina for the hauling and preparation of the boat. It is a 285 slip
full service marina capable of handling boats up to 110ft.
The marina also provides waterside cocktails and exquisite dining at the beautiful and
scenic La
Motta's Restaurant. |
| Andy was
wearing polarized sunglasses supplied by
Azores Eyewear.
Finally someone has come out with a premium sunglass line at a reasonable
price (less than $80). The polarized lenses eliminate glare and allows
anglers to spend long hours on the water without having to worry about
headaches and eyestrain. All models have 100% UVA and UVB protection.
Never settle for anything else. No angler should be without these
glasses. |
