The late May visit to Boston Harbor was a real eye opener.  Guest Pete Santini, owner of Fishing Finatics (creator of the Santini Tube Lure), was right on the money when he described the great comeback that the flounder and cod have made in the harbor.  Despite sometimes breezy conditions the action never stopped and the guys caught over 30 flounder to 4lbs with several over 2lbs.  Nearly every fish was of legal size.  They also had cod mixed in up to 10 lbs.  At the end of the day, they put the cameras and Flounder tackle away and took a short run to a nearby cod spot and jigged up several solid cod up to 40lbs.  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The outfit used consisted of a Shimano 400 Catala reel on a 7' MH Compre rod rated for 12-20lb test line.  This combination is perfect for this type of fishing. It was sensitive to feel even the lightest of flounder bites, yet had enough beef to handle the codfish that were mixed in.  If you are not familiar with the great line of rods offered by Shimano, click here to learn more.  Click here to locate the Shimano dealer nearest to you. A variety of rigs were used.  The most effective terminal tackle consisted of a 4ft length of 50lb fluorocarbon leader attached via an 80lb SPRO swivel to the main line.  A standoff or dropper loop six inches below the swivel is attached to a 4/0 Mustad beak baitholder hook dressed with a bucktail rivet.  A 2-6 ounce sinker was attached to the end of the leader via a loop (so that the sinker could be changed easily).  Also attached to this loop was a two hook flounder rig consisting of two offset 10-12inch 50lb leaders, each tipped with a 1/0 Mustad bait holder hook preceded by a yellow plastic bead.  If you would like to buy any of the tackle displayed on this page, click here to find a bait and tackle dealer near you.
Accommodations were provided by the Comfort Inn & Suites in Revere, MA.  The hotel was only a few minutes away from the fishing and a short drive from heart of Boston.  The charter captains can easily pick you up right at the hotel.  The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle to and from Logan Airport.  It also boasts all the amenities that anyone could want; indoor pool, exercise room, complimentary continental breakfast, internet access and more.  This is a great place to bring the family as there are numerous activities in and around Boston for those who choose not to fish.  Also located within the hotel is Pacini's restaurant and bar serving fine Italian cuisine.
Andy was wearing polarized sunglasses supplied by Azores Eyewear.  Finally someone has come out with a premium sunglass line at a reasonable price (less than $80).  The polarized lenses eliminate glare and allows anglers to spend long hours on the water without having to worry about headaches and eyestrain.  All models have 100% UVA and UVB protection.  Never settle for anything else.  No angler should be without these  glasses.
