| Our June 1 foray into the western Long Island Sound in
search of big Stripers was an unqualified success. The conditions were
perfect, the bite was on, and the action never stopped and even included
several double headers. Rich and Andy really put their tackle to the test
battling more fish than they could count. Nearly all of the fish were in the
20 and 30 pound class. All of the fish were found in the shallows at depths
no greater than 10 feet. If you have questions about any of the equipment
used during the show, please contact us or send us a message. If you would like to buy any of the tackle

A mix of Shimano rods and
reels were used.
- 20lb Trinidad reel on a 7' MH Calcutta series rod
- 30lb Trinidad reel on a 7' MH Calcutta series rod
- 700 Calcutta on a 6 1/2' MH Atlantic series rod
All of the rods and reel combinations performed perfectly. The adjustable
clicker feature on the Trinidads provided Rich and Andy with additional control
over their baits no matter how lively they were. The medium heavy rods allowed
them to get the hook out of their big baits and into the fish every time. It
also allowed them to keep hooked fish away from the rocks and the anchor line.

The terminal tackle consisted of a 9/0 Ultrapoint Beak Bait style
Mustad
beak bait hook snelled onto a 3-4' length of 50lb
Fluorocarbon leader. The leader is attached to a main line of clear 30lb test monofilament using a 130lb test
Mustad Rolling Swivel swivel. The Fluorocarbon leader provided excellent protection against
the gill plates of the Bass and the shallow water structure typical of the areas
where they were found. |
